Congratulations to the 1 Brigade, 4th Infantry Division under the command of Col. Jim Hickey on the capture of Saddam Hussein in Ad Dawr 15m SE of Tikrit on Saturday, December 13th.
Saddam was discovered hiding in a underground "spider hole" equipped with a fan for ventalation near a small metal lean to shed a short distance from a location that was designated "Wolverine 2" by Army intelligence. Two locations were searched and at first nothing was found and the area was cordoned off and given a more thorough going over when a suspicious location was located not far from the main target "Wolverine 2" was located.
Saddam offered no resistance although two loaded AK assault rifles and a loaded pistol were found nearby. Saddam was immediately taken to a undisclosed location in or near Baghdad under U.S. military guard and given a medical examination and samples taken for DNA testing to confirm his I.D. Details are being worked out for his trial by the Iraqi government and people.
