not sure if anyone liked this movie, but i was at walmart if u have them and for fathers day they had some movies 2 for 15 bucks. i got green berets and lethal weapon 3. not bad for 7.50 apiece. i also got Tigerland for 5.88 out of a bargain bin. thought i would mention this.
i do like the seen with the spooky gunship in the green berets and when they are defending the base. It is not a favorite, but i dont think its a terrible movie either.

It wasn't the best war movie, and Wayne was past his prime for this type of action when it was made, but it's "classic John Wayne" all the way otherwise.

true, i know some people who cant stand him, but i cant think of a John Wayne movie that i don't like.

I've been a lifelong "Duke" fan. I've seen just about every film he ever made. I have this one on tape from t.v. from about 20 some years or so ago when I was actively recording movies and when cable t.v. was just a small time operation and hadn't gobbled up all the "good movies" yet.
I always have to laugh at the idiot critics that like to point out that at the end of the movie "Wayne walks off to the sunset in the east." Of course that was a sunrise having been on a night mission and just arriving back at base at dawn. Even NBC's Dateline made the same mistake and I immediately emailed them about it, but they weren't much interested in correcting themselves. Liberal press...go figure.
The only John Wayn movies I currently own on DVD are "In Harm's Way" and "North To Alaska."
North to Alaska holds a special memory for me, because my family saw it together back in the 60s when it was first released while we were vacationing in northern Wisconsin on our yearly trek up there. Northern Wisconsins is my home away from home and I regret that I have not been able to travel up there for the past several years. Our old resort is long gone and finding a new place on the same old lake is nearly impossible now since not many resorts remain in operation...damn that Disney World anyway.
It also happens to be one of the best Wayne comedies out there. I especialy enjoy the scenes at the Lumberjack picnic in Seattle.
In Harm's Way is a classic, but the actual battle sequence is a bit of a let down. Just when he's put in charge the Japanese just vanish and it's all rather anit-climactic. The sea battle and the PT boat sequences were interesting, but the land battle was a let down. i still like the movie up to that point. The odd pairing of Wayne and Burgess Merideth as bunk mates at Pearl is a strange one but it seems to work.

i only have the green berets and sands of iwo jima, possibly a old western or two on tape. but i seen a lot of his movies. My dad and step dad are both big Duke fans and have the books with all his movies listed. they both only not seen maybe 2 titles a piece, mainly cause you cant find some of the earliest movies.

on a side note, i been trying out netflix for awhile now and really like it, walmart has a slightly cheaper service with a few less titles, and blockbuster plans to start one. but i get a lot of westerns and war movies from it. they have a free trial, as well. much cheaper than buying dvds like i was. for the price of one premium dvd , i get a months service.

Very interesting indeed! I don't get out much, but have acquired a few "Duke" movies via online shopping sites such as Amazon, Half.com by eBay and eBay itself.
I also have a complete listing of his over 180 movies (and not just those he starred in, but his early "extra" roles too). Last count I think I have just over 90, but far cry from all that I hope to have in the future.
As to his actual war movies I have the following; Back to Bataan, Fightingg Seabees, Flying Leathernecks, Flying Tigers, Green Berets, In Harm's Way, Operation Pacific, Sands of Iwo Jima, and They Were Expendable.
There are a couple of other military although not actual war pictures that I have as well, that happened during times of war. Those being; Jet Pilot, Sea Chase, and The Wings of Eagles.
As I said a fan and also a collector. Just don't have all I want to this point as of yet!!!

I have most of the same movies as you do on tape, Phil, save for the two you have that I have on DVD. I'll probably get more on DVD in the future.
I like They Were Expendable. It's one of my favorites. I wonder why the Duke only seemed to take it out on the Japs and never the Krauts in his movie. In fact, he played a German sea captain, a sympathetic character, in the THE SEA CHASE. Strange, it never dawned on me before.

thanks for posting all those movies, i have some in que or in my collection already, but some of them i never heard of . the one thing i like about netflix is, they give you a rental que, that will hold 500 movies, you can rearrange the que any time you want to. this is so they can send you the next dvd after you send one back, also tells you the ones you have out. and they also have a lot of the tv show seasons. So now i can rent Tour of Duty, Xfiles , Star Trek, and Mash, without buying them all. Sorry for making the green berets off topic, but we got a little conversation going here. :-)
