I've got those movies on tape that I recorded from t.v. years and years ago. I've had a VCR since 1978 and started recording programs and movies right away.
While I have not recorded anything lately in the past few years save for the occasional documentary, I have at least some 150+ 6-hour tapes, most with at least 3 movies on them and some with other short programs added to use up the available tape.
I've got military documentaries dating back to 1978, like one that aired on PBS called "Maneovre" about U.S. Army maneuvers in Germany back in the 70's-80's against the Bundeswehr.
The oldest thing I have saved is the the original broadcast of the the mini-series "Holocaust". Another mini-series I recorded was "Blood and Honor" about the coming of age of young German boys during the rise of Nazism and the Hitler Youth.
Other documentaries I have are "Seapower" a BBC production and "Soldier". I also have both Battelfield and Battlefield 2 documentaries on tape. Just too many to list here.
I keep them all listed on a legal pad I keep downstairs near our big t.v. where I have the tapes. I have to update the list and add things I have recorded since.
Every once in a while I go downstairs when I can't sleep and pop in one of my tapes and watch a movie I haven't seen in a number of years.

"Downstairs" refers to a finished famly room in the basement, it's like a second living room since our the real living room is rather small in this bi-level house. It's the only place large enough that can hold the shelf unit where I store my recorded tapes. It also holds aone of our tv's and one of our vcr's. I have a 19" tv with builtin vcr right next to my computer on my desk here, but the VCR is eating tapes so I don't use it anymore. The other vcr is our bedroom and I'm usually up while she's sleeping so I don't want to disturbr here so I go downstairs where it is nice and cool and can stretch out on the couch.
Basically I recorded anything that had anything to do with the military. I even recorded a couple of spots from a news magazine show that they did on camouflage and the use of inflatable decoys. I tried to fill in the free space on all my tapes so I've got a lot of stuff to watch. I recorded the entire "I, Claudius" pbs series and watch that every once in a great while. That kills off about 6-7 hours if I watch it from beginning to end.

Well, being as I live with the folks, my room IS my quiet place. We have a large living room, BUT always occupied and the TV going, so it's like WHEN would I get a "turn" if I watched in there?! As to size I have a 21" flat screen console and my VCR is on top and it is "propped up" on a built in window seat so I can even watch in bed. So, good enough for me. As to recording, I seldom do. To be frank, the ONLY thing I record is basketball games when I'm away so I can watch them later. One I have is the FIRST time the U of A Wildcats took the NCAA title. Other than that they all get erased eventually, so don't need extra space for any save those I've bought, which are plenty in themselves. Think I have about 50 besides my Duke collections, so enough for now, but am always looking...
Sincerely, Phil

Unless I buy DVDs myself I tend to get most of them for my birthday and for Christmas now. I gave my wife a list of DVDs I would like to have so it should keep her busy for a few years. Every once in a while, probably every 4-5 months or so, I'll just go ahead and order a new one. Unless I can find a deal like I did a while back at Best Buy where you could order 3 DVD movies for $30.
I just got done watching a my "Zulu" DVD on my computer. I decided to watch it tonight after watching a repeat of a PBS program called "Secrets of the Dead". Tonight's program investigated the massacre of British troops at Isandwahla by the Zulus in South Africa in 1879. I had seen it before but I like to watch them anyway.
I remember seeing this the first time back in the 60s on tv and was really wowed by the story. I didn't see "Zulu Dawn", which is about the massacre of the main column at Isandwahla, until sometime in the 80s or whenever it made it to tv. I think "Zulu" is a better movie than "Zulu Dawn".

One of the gifts I got for Christmas last month, which just arrived yesterday, is the Green Berets on DVD. I just watched it this afternoon.
The acting was still just as stilted and Wayne was far from his prime when he made this one, but it was fun to watch anyway.

Well, Congrats on finally getting your present and the fact that one of them is the Green Berets. It's true Wayne was past his prime, yet still a GREAT movie as almost all of his are! Glad you had the time to enjoy a REAL classic!
Sincerely, Phil
