Yep, it's true. Hollywood has done it again. They are going to re-write history to suit the American audience and to make a buck. (Big surprise.) This is an alarming trend in the movie business, that really started with the making of U-571 a totally fictional account of the capture of the Nazi "enigma" cypher machine on a U-boat. For those that don't know it, it was the British Navy that captured the top secret code machine. The following news story has the British fuming, and to make things worse they just celebrated Battle of Britain day on Sept. 15th. News story

im pretty sure in the credits of U-571 i remember seeing it list the movie as fiction and gives credit to the first 5 enigmas captured 3 by british and 2 by americans, but the first was by them. I think they largely overreact to the star being made a american, i would see it either way. the one major fault the british have in being upset is, they never make a large budget war movie that is international. American companies make them for a american audience then ship them to other parts of the world. You can rarely go see a movie here that is made by a non-american movie company. Everyone has the right to their opinion but they are never happy with any movie made. Im surprised they did not complain that there was no british troops in BlackHawk Down,,, :-) , just kidding. I like to see them in a uproar sometimes, they always seem to think that without the americans help and russians help, plus the countless other allies, they would have beaten the Germans by themselves. IF the germans never stopped hitting the war industry , i think Britain would have settled for some type of peace accord .

Well, in this case I can sort of see their point. There were only 7 Americans flying in BoB. I think they only scored one kill, and the character being protrayed by Tom Cruise was killed in a crash in real life. (Sorry to give away the ending.)
I suppose Hollywood won't be happy with that and he'll be allowed to live on for the sake of the movie.

probably will let him live . I like it when they stick to what happened even if its sad or bad news. but i rather them make a war movie, than no movie at all. I have nothing agnaist them, but you cannot talk WW2 to long with any of the british people i have spoken to, before they claim they did not need the USA. Now i cant speak for the ones i never met, not meaning to offend any of them. Just that has been my experience thus far. I would like to know, why Tom Cruise again, is the Last Samurai, looks like a great movie, but i dont see him as a samurai.

Their complaint is that the American always make it seem like we won the war all by ourselves without the help of the British and others. So I think their responses about not needing us are probably just a defensive reaction to what they perceive as the typical American attitudes. And we adopt the opposite attitude in response to their defensiveness.

thats prolly hitting the nail on the head, they just seem to come off a little more Antagonistic in conversations. Im guilty of it myself at times. Hollywood = Holly would do anything to sell tickets.

Unfortunately for the new generations, it has come to a point where Hollywoold thinks its fiction is more interesting that the actual facts.
