1/700 Scale J.M.S.D.F. DE Abukuma
The Abukuma which was the first of the Abukuma class coastal destroyer escorts of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), was built at the Mitsui Tamano Shipyards in 1986. In the same year, the second ship in same class the Jintsu was built at the Hitachi Maizuru Shipyards. Although they are technically coastal destroyer escorts, the Abukuma class ships have a larger displacement than earlier generations of 1,700 ton destroyer escorts, and moreover, armament as powerful as a typical fleet destroyer. These powerful warships are currently the centerpiece of JMSDF coastal defences.
