The Cold War didn't end in 1989. The U.S. is invaded! That's the premise of the game coming out in early 2007 from VUG/Sierra and Massive Entertainment. Official website (still under construction, but has a neat CGI trailer video to watch (not in-game video.) www.worldinconflict.comYou can see some in-game screen shots for WiC on Gamespot.com and Worthplaying.com. Massive Entertainment is the developer of the popular Ground Control and Ground Control 2 games. WiC will be somewhat similar to these games.

The WiC closed beta test just came to an end today. There are lots of enthusiastic players out there thrilled with the multiplayer version of WiC.
An open beta of WiC will occur in July.

this game looks very promising, ive been following it for awhile, many trailers and gameplay videos out now. some on filefront.com and fileshack.com fileshack is free but you have to sign up, usually no waiting, but sometimes their is. they have pay service as well. but 9 times out of ten there is no wait, or its only like a minute or two. and speeds are fast.

So far only the multiplayer part of the game has been publicly tested. We're all still waiting for more info and a chance to play the single-player mode of the game.
Of course, there is supposed to be a map editor, which no one has seen yet, which will let you create your own battle maps or a virtual copy of your home town to fight in.
In the MP part of the game, teamwork is essential. Having players assume one of the various roles on the team is important. Too many noobies chose artillery, because they thought they could hide at the rear and make easy kills, but they didn't cover their units with AA or move periodically, or didn't provide needed artillery or AA support elsewhere on the map when it was requested.
There were several maps where you are either defending or attacking and in the defense mode, some players took that too literally and refused to move forward and take the fight to the enemy. They usually ended up getting overrun and wiped out.
When you play with an experienced team and work as team the outcome is nearly certain. You just steamrole over noobies or any team that is not acting in a coordinated manner supporting each other.
The object in the MP part of the game is to capture "control points." You have to control both or all three CPs to capture the site. There are several of these sorts of sites sprikled around the map. When your team controls most of the CPs by the time the timer runs out or all of them before time runs out, your team wins. Most MP games ran about 20 mins.
You score points by making kills on enemy units, tanks, trucks, artillery, control point installations, or by repairing other units, or constructing control point installations, etc. These points can be used to call in "tactical aids" or TA's . These range from a doppler radar pulse to reveal enemy positions, to mortars, precision air strikes, napalm runs, A-10 runs, artillery strikes, carpet bombing from a B-52, and ultimately a tactical nuke. There are a few other TA's that I did not list.
A well placed TA attack can stop or reverse the course of battle in a close fight.
Every once in a while you play against another experienced group of players and the battles can be very intense and it might come down to just the last few seconds on which side is considered the winner. A number of clans have already started to form up.
A open beta is scheduled to start sometime around July 10. There may be info on how to get a beta key on some of the sites like IGN, Fileplanet, Gamestop, etc. If you preorder the game you are supposed to get a beta key before the test opens.
The game is officially scheduled for a "fall 2007" release. The last specific date I saw posted before they changed to the generic one was September 7.

I noticed that about the Intel site to and mentioned it to Sierra to see if they could do something about it. Since this will be an open beta, just about everyone that wants to take part in it will be able to do so. Right now they are busy working on a automated system for distributing beta keys from the official WiC website www.worldinconflict.com. The test should begin sometime next week if their previous July 11th date still holds.
