Getting Red Baron to run in DOS

Yes, you read that right- I'm trying to run the original Red Baron. I've got it up and running with sound but I can't figure out how to get mouse support. Any clues? I guess Joystick support would also be a good thing...

The first thing I would ask you is which version of Windows is this under?

Next, try copying and pasting a copy of the MOUSE.EXE file into the game folder. Run it before running the game or edit it into a startup batch file that calls it then starts the game for you.

I would also like to recommend that you get Red Baron 3D. It's an updated version of the game with online play capability. It also has some ground targets like bunkers, tanks, and troops to strafe. RB3D also has a paintshop program that lets you export plane graphics to BMP files then modify them in a editor and import them back to the game.

It may be hard to find. Or, get Red Baron II, then download the super patch that updates RB II to RB 3D.

RB3D has a large following and lots of online squadrons to join. Many groups have come up with their own additions to the game.

Thanks Keith. I have RB3D but I was just in the mood for some old 300x230 action. The mood has passed. I have a GeForce card now so I can't play RB3D either. Do you think they'll ever make another WW1 sim? I'd love to see one on the market (that and a B17 sim that isn't buggy).

Gee, I thought those GeForce cards worked with everything! ;D

With Dynamix gone, it looks doubtful. It the development teams currently with Sierra don't seem to have any such programming experience with flight sims, which leaves it to one of the other publishers in the VU empire to come up with something. The closest thing to a flight sim the company has now is the Star Fleet Command series of space battle simulators by 14º East and Interplay. Pro Pilot flight simulator is old and not being updated either.

Dynamix was starting work on a WW2 Desert Air War sim when they got the axe. There was a crude demo out for it at the time. I think you can find it a SimHQ.com in their flight sim demo section of files.

Check out those links above. Someone must be playing RB3D with a GeForce card somewhere. Have you tried IL-2? I don't think the demo will run on my system. Those video clips I've been downloading make it look mighty appealing.
