Thius post is for all you old Steel Panther fanatics. If you Google for "SPWW2" or "SPMBT" you'll find the current versions over on Wargamer available for download. These are upgrades of the old SP using the SP2 engine and SP2, Modern Conflicts. You need an SP2 CD to play both ( I think). Anyway, this is SPCAMO workshops efforts and they rival SPWAW by Matrix Games. Better hurry, it appears that if Wargamer does not raise about $2000 bucks by the end of the month, they are closing down. A couple of 56 meg downloads, but they are freebie games if you have the SP 2 CD already. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure you need the CD anymore.

Keith-
You might want to know that Big Top says that the downloads over on HOTU are not legal. However, if you spin through that site and search under publisher "Freeware", there are quite a few titles that are legitimately freeware. There's an especially good Civil War game, "American Civil War:Sumter to Appomatax" and of course, "The Ardennes Offensive 2." Both are stellar downloads.
Any chance you might start up your Test of Iron scenario's. I know many of us enjoyed them immensely.

I'm having a problem downloading the full 56MB SPWW2 file. I got up to 27MB once and it quit. I got up to 18MB another time and it quit. I had a couple of shorter download attempts also quit. I wish these folks would learn that you have to have them available from an FTP site for reliable downloads of such big files. If I can get the file downloaded and if I find myself playing it again on a reqular basis I would consider creating more scenarios.

Well, after 8 tries I finally managed to download the SPWW2v.5 file.
I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed. The program would constantly display a graphics bug every few minutes making it necessary to ALT+TAB out to the desktop and back. In some cases, this did not fix the problem at all and the game would lockup. After about 6 attempts to play "Jadgtigers in Klingenburg" and having the game lockup on me around the 3 turn. I finally started making manual saves as I went.
This helped somewhat in that I did not lose the entire game I was playing as the graphic bug continued to plague me the entire game.
Unfortunately, unless the guys at the SP Cammo Workshop can come up with a fix I won't be playing much of SPWW2 v. 5.6.
I have run SP, SP2, and SPW@W, and SPWW2 on this machine previously without any problems. I checked the README file and verified my shortcut property settings multiple times and even tried a few variations of my own all without luck. Actually their suggested settings for the game are not all that different from the MSDOS shortcut I have setup that I use to play some other MSDOS based games.
The graphic problem I had would suddenly appear spontaneously on the screen. The screen would suddenly shift into a "Venitian Blind" effect distorting the actual graphics and placing alternating columns of short horizontal stripes on the screen. In some instances the screen would shift into a screen wrap mode, as best as I can explain it. The main screen would suddenly enlarge wiping out the right hand tool menu and the top of the same screen would appear in the bottom quarter of the screen.
When either problem apppeared I would ALT+TAB to the desktop. Then ALT+TAB back to the game. Usually when I did the main battle portion of the screen was reduced in to tiny rectangle and repeatedly appeared all over the screen in a "tiled mode". If I scroll the screen it would clear the battle screen, and the rest would clear up if a new unit moved or fired. Sometimes the screen would just freeze in this tiled mode forcing me to force the game to quit from Windows.
I did manage to finally complete one game but it took far too much aggrivation and attempts to make it worthwhile playing it this way in the future.

I believe I have uncovered the source of my SPWW2 graphics problem. Seems my SETI client program was the culprit.
Once I disable the program the graphics problems with SPWW2 seemed to end.

Keith- Maybe they were sending you a message<g>. Barry You never know. ;D I've been running the SETI client program for the past 4 years straight and have processed over 1,190 work units to date. I was wrong in my diagnosis of the problem, it wasn't really my SETI client causing the problem but rather my little "stay online" AOL utility. I started messing around with the SPWW2 editor. Just getting the feel of things again. I'm working on a scenario, fictional, of a huge tank battle. I may let you have it if I think it's good enough when it's done.
