I've only played the demo of Stronghold and it was fun for a while. Demos usually lose their appeal after a time.
Stronghold and its newer versions have a good following. A number of people hanging out on the Sierra Lords of the Realm III board have it and play it and seem to like it. I believe there is another game called Medieval Total War out too.
Stronghold is a creation of a number of former Impressions employees by the way.

thanks for the info. I think that Total War Shogun was the precurser of Total War.
