Drat. That really sucks. A B-17 had a hydraulic failure recently while taxiing down the runway. Both landing gears collapsed, ruining the props and doing god-knows-what kind of damage to the fuselage and engine nacelles. I remember the photos of the ME-109 "Black Six" upside down in a plowed farm field. I think it is still in a hangar somewhere undergoing repairs. The past ~6 or so years have been unknind to vintage aircraft. We lost the world's last flying HE-111 and more than a few few Korean war era and/or Soviet bloc surplus jets.
When the world is down to less than five or so working specimens of a given model, I have to admit that it would probably be a good idea to ground at least one of them. I'm never going to see a fully restored Ju-87 fly at an air show, am I? ;P

I have to admit I'd hate not seeing them fly but I hate seeing these vintage aircraft lost due to crashes. At least the Hurri didn't look like it was severely damaged. Stormbirds has the right approach. Make replicas and fly those instead.
