I've had this site on my aviation links for quite some time. They are planning on producing flyable copies of the 262 for sale, as I recall. There are other similar projects producing FW190s and 109s. A while back, probably at least 5 years ago, the Yakolev company in Russian dusted off some of its original Yak-3 WW2 fighter dies and produced several original fighter aircraft for sale in the west. These aircraft are sequentially numbered starting with the number after the last WW2 production aircraft produced. I believe a copy of the Yak-3 went for somewhere around $500,000 U.S.

There was an article in Air & Space magazine about it. I've got a copy of it here somewhere in the pile. Here's a page I found on those planes: www.yakuk.com/yak3.htm

Interesting you should bring this up. There is a great article detailing everything about the ME-262 project in the January issue of EAA Sport Aviation. It details the first flight of White 1( an ME-262B-1a,twin seat trainer), which took place on December 20, 2002, with great pictures and interesting flight performance and design details from the chief test pilot. This project is building 5 brand new aircraft with modern components and has restored White 35 to like-new display condition for the U.S. Navy which owned the captured original trainer aircraft(only 15 trainers were built). I found it interesting that one of the first American airmen to encounter this remarkable aircraft was B24 pilot Capt. John Messerschmitt. He was first cousin to Willy Messerschmitt and was invited to observe the first flight.

I'm always interested in hearing about warbirds, their restoration, flights, and any "new" aircraft being produced in their likeness.
Not having the money, it's nice to dream what it would be like to own and fly a warbird.
There were a pair of men somewhere in Kansas, I believe, that created 109 lookalikes, however they were not stressed for combat flying. They are just flyable duplicates of Bf109Fs.
They won't sell them to anyone, nor will they build flyable copies to anyone due to liability concerns. They will construct static non-flyable display copies of their birds for anyone with the money though.

wouldn't that be cool to have in the driveway or garage, most people would not know that it did not fly...

The trainer that the Navy owns was placed into a hanger. So it can be placed back on display by Route 611 in Warminster PA. Luckly I live about 30mins away.

When will it go on display and how do I find this place? We would like to stop and see it on a future trip to PA.
