im currently playing americas army, and having a blast at it, unfortunately most of the gameplay is online , and its a large download for those with slower connections. u do some bootcamp training, then u have to pass mout before u can play the rest of the missions. so many things standout that make it a blast. it is a fps however. americasarmy.com it is free though

I just finished downloading it this morning. Took 24 hours + via 56K with an averaget xfer rate of approx 3.0Kbps.

Unfortuantely, it needs 660MB free to install. I'm at the tailend of my HD space and have been downloading more MP3s as of late and only had 550MB free. The file ate up 295MB of space during the download.

So I'll have to wait before I can play this game.

I saw it on a news report and thought I'd give it a try. With all the sniper trouble in Maryland this past month there are a few lawyers planning on suing the Army to get the game taken offline because they don't want their kids to have access to it. So I thought I better grab it before it gets tied up by some bleeding heart liberal lawyer with an injunction order.

My first idea was to grab it from Gigex, because of their little resumable downloading application they send with each download, but the demo is not longer on Gigex. So I tried one of the other magazine sites and found one with a ftp download for the file by clicking on the links as if I were going to download it via their web page until I found the true file link. Then I copied the URL and pasted it to my WS FTP Pro program using the transfer manager menu in the client software so I could pause and resume the download without trouble.

The path to the file I downloaded is:

However, the file itself is hidden. So I had to navigate to the folder first and clicked on the transfer arrow, which opened popup window wher I typed armyops130.exe and the transfer started.

I managed to download about 150MB the first night in about 12 hours or so with one pause I made so I could update my website. Then resumed again for a while in the following afternoon yesterday and grabbed another 50MB while online. Then I for the homestretch last night I resumed the download and completed the last 95MB overnight.

yeah i need to update with the newest patch to try it. most of the playing is online but it does has some single player training. my roomate is a former paratrooper, and he says for a video game its damn good. i think people wanting to sue because of sniper training in the game is ridiculous. anyone suing video games i think is just terrible, but what can you do. I'm not big on censorship, i think i should choose what i see and hear, not somebody i dont even know.
