Hi all- It's been awhile since I posted in the old neighborhood, but thought I'd come on down and let everyone know about Combat Mission, Barbarossa to Berlin. This game is flat great, with lots of replayability in solitaire mode. I'm currently fighting three battles in PBEM mode and although "wego" concept of turns (simulataneous) movement makes for a bunch of e-mail back and forth, the game plays well, even in pbem. The three-D modeling is excellent. Give this one a thumbs up for sure. Barry

Its a game i was looking at, maybe ill have it shortly, i did like the first one, a bit awkward at first but fun. the 2nd looked even better. i was playing the GI Combat demo, its a cross between combat mission and close combat on a enlarged scale. pretty cool but hard to control accurately.

I downloaded the 61MB CMBB demo the other night and I've been playing it the past couple of days.
The first thing that stands out in my mind that I don't like is the constant figiting with the the map sroll, rotate, and elevate view controls to see what's going on or to issue orders.
The next thing is that each tank or unit has to be given orders. You cannot drag a box around a group of units and tell give them orders. This would be tremendous bore in very large scenarios where there large numbers of units.
I've already played through the 3 demo missions several times and the only one I find that has any real appeal is the 45 turn Schwerpunkt Citadel (Kursk) battle. Too bad the Soviet side doesn't have a few more tanks.
CMBB is interesting, but it takes too long on my P2/450 to crunch all the data between turns. It really slows down the game.
I like the looks of the German tanks, the Soviet AT guns are a bit "basic" looking, and it seems that the Soviet ATRs have unrealistically long ranges.
I'm already tiring of the demo, so it may be off my hard drive by the weekend.

Keith-
If you want to issue "unit" orders, then double-click on the HQ unit. That will highlight all the units within command range of that HQ. Youcan then issue a unit wide order, not just an individual unit order.

I've tinkered with a few files and created a new set of flags for the the German and Neutral positions, menubar flag for the Germans and a replacement for the Iron Cross position marker for the Germans. The set includes a new accurate German battle ensign, a more striking appearing neutral marker, and a Balkan Kreuz position marker. Click on the document icon to download file after page opens.

I've updated the CMBB files mentioned above and added several choices of new German position markers for bot the Wehrmacht and SS.
Just click the link above and follow the instructions below the link to get updated package of files.
