I got my order from Chip 'n Bits yesterday afternoon and got them installed. I spent some time just trying things out with the aid of the quick reference cards. I've got some manual reading to do, especially for B-17 2.
In terms of complexity, I would say that Luftwaffe Commander is the least complex to fly. Those looking for a little more complexity than SWON offered might want to consider this one. For $10 at Chips 'n Bits you can't go too far wrong. Check their bargain bin before they run out.
Fighter Squadron: Screaming Demons Over Europe is a little more complex and with all the patches and aircraft packs has quite a bit to offer. Not to mention the upcoming release of Last Days of the Reich by some avid players for SDOE. My only problem here is that I can't get the mission editor that comes with the 1.6.05 patch to work. It crashes immediately after startup.
B-17 2 is very complex. Many many controls and dials to keep track of. Very much a full flight simulator. I've got some manual reading to do on this one in earnest, as I have yet been able to make the B-17 turn during a taxi run.
I run all of these games on their highest texture and 3D settings possible. My computer and video card are more than capable or doing so. The hi-res aircraft in B-17 look very nice, the graphics of FS:SDOE and LC are a bit more primitive, with SDOE being the better of those two.
Learning how each sim handles aircraft fligh characteristics is going to take some time. B-17 will take the longest. Luftwaffe Commander is the easiest to fly of the three.
As with all flight sims I find it hard to spot a enemy and keep track of it without going into a spin or dive, even with padlock views. I rarely get into a position to actually do some damage to a enemy fighter. Again LC was the easiest of the three in this regard.
When I got tired of flying fighters and getting frustrated, I took off on a few single missions in a RAF Lancaster bomber in SDOE. That was fun.
I"ve still got a lot to learn in all three sims.
