www.springfieldarmory.com/whatsnew.shtmlsmall article about accesory at top, but scroll to bottom to see springfields new M1, its in production for right now, Im seriously thinking of getting one with the scope package. was thinking of a colt carbine or fn fal, but i love my M1 a lot, cant decide on 30-06 or .308 win. the one i have now is a 308.

Getting the .308 model would make buying ammo easier wouldn't it? Seems like the logical choice for you.

30-06 ammo is just as common as .308, but 7.62x51 NATO surplus is more abundant. Having said that, a fairly new shipment of Danish 30-06 surplus on en-bloc Garand clips is in the country now and several retailers list it. Loose Korean surplus is also available for those who don't want to pay for all the spare clips. I think the new production Springfield Garands are about $850 dollars NIB. A cheaper option, if you're willing to go with 30-06, might be qualifying for a CMP purchase. A Danish surplus Garand will set you back $400 dollars. It's a PITA but if you can attend a qualifying match near your area, it might be worth the effort. Just about any NRA match will do for the purpose of qualification and you can join the Garand Collector's Club for one year to satisfy the club membership requirement. The M1 Garand is on my shopping list of "rifles I must have" but it's not an immediate priority. Finding a match to participate in will be my biggest challenge. We don't have squat for NRA rifle matches around here- at least none that I know about. Right now I'm in the middle of building a FAL- collecting one component at a time. A box of NIW metric mags and a U.S. made operation rod is due at my door via the UPS delivery man. This poor man surely must think I'm building an arsenal for doomsday. Galland

let me know how the fal turns out. a colt carbine and a fal were on my list of possibles as well. i was just a bit worried about not getting one of the M1's since the run is limited..i think ill ask springfield how long it will be produced. im sure their are some nra matches herem but i already have a M-1 , i just wanted a new production one as well. prolly can never have enough though. is a gun show this weekend so im gonna price them. and see what the damage would be
