Those of you jonesing for an old world ANSI/textmode BBS might do well to grab a copy of mTelnet and look up a few BBS telnet addresses. ozone.eesc.com/The fellow who runs Mythology is kind of rusty, but he's reestablishing a board he ran years ago. telnet://alaneddy.darktech.org I ran my own system with InterMail and Renegade BBS software. Like most boards, it was replaced by the internet. Ways to connect a PC to the internet back then were few and far between. Bandwidth considerations also made it impractical for most small board operators. In the past year a new BBS platform, Mystic BBS, has been released and is in active development. I like it a lot- just as much as Renegade as a matter of fact. One of these days I'm going to open my old board. Galland

I use to run "Stalag 13" from a dialup TriBBS program. Stalag 13 was original known as the "Prodigy Zone".
I kept all sorts of SWOTL files there for people to download and then I started expanding the board with other files. It all ended with a hard drive crash and my backup files are inaccessable on my backup tapes due to a missing catalog file. So I just closed the board.
I've still got my registered copy of TriBBS somewhere but just don't have the will to restart the board again.
Something that could be run over the internet like that would be very nice, but then you can pretty much do that now with a simple webpage and file storage without the need of a BBS style program.
Interesting. I wonder how they managed to get a old landline BBS system to recognize a telenet connection. I'd like to learn more about how they have it setup and what it requires. Didn't see any explanation during my visit.

Didn't see any explanation during my visit. Mystic BBS software has it's own built-in telnet daemon. Folks with older software like to use COM/IP. It simulates a com port. I tried it out last year. It's a good option for folks who want to use pre-internet BBS software. Another option is Synchronet. It's in active development and is quite internet ready. www.synchro.netHere is a screenshot of my old main menu just for fun. Folks could choose between red, green, blue, cyan and purple monochromatic color schemes. I took a minimalistic "less is more" approach with my board art.
