Thanks for the headsup on this one. I went ahead and ordered Battle of Britain, Zulu, Great Escape, A Bridge Too Far, and Vikings.

I went through there entire list last night and bookmarked all the war movies on DVD that I'd be interested in getting. I have some of them on VHS tape that I recorded off tv, but a DVD will be better without the cuts made to them to fit a timeslot or the various commercial interruption pauses I made. Must be a good 30-40 DVDs I bookmarked and many are just $10-$13 bucks. I think I'll give the wife the bookmark list and she can do here b'day and xmas shopping early for me this year.

Sounds like somebody's going to burn out their DVD player watchin' movies, hehe. I have a ton of war movies but all on tape since I haven't taken the plunge and bought a DVD player yet. I'm always the last one on my block...

thats a good idea for a gift list.
my dvd collection is around 200 or so, i had lots of things taped , but either part was missing or commercials or so reason to not keep them all. however i had less than a dozen vhs movies i bought, so i was not to bad off on replacing my video collection. my friend however has thousands of vhs movies, 99% were taped but she has over a hundred she bought, i would not envy switching those over to dvd. i like the dvd for the extra features, and they are smaller and weigh a lot less.

I have about 150 VHS tapes that I've recorded over the years. I got my first VCR back in 1978 and the first thing I recorded and kept was the mini-series "Holocaust" which I still have. Over the years I've spent hours watching movies and editing out the commercials. I've got special programming from the local PBS channel in my area when they used to run military stuff, like "Sea Power" and a documentary made back in the 1970s called "Maneuver", which was all about a maneuver in Germany. I've got movies that I haven't seen on regular tv for years, (darn the cable for buying them all up.) I've recorded mostly military and war movies with some other special interest programs like the entire "I, Claudius" series from PBS. As of late I've been taking breaks late at night from the computer and going downstairs and watching one of my tapes now and then. Most of my tapes have at least 2 or 3 movies on them plus anything else of interest I could squeeze on to them. I still add things I don't have when it's available or in somecases if a movie comes on PBS without commercials I'll re-record it. I did that when "Fall of the Roman Empire" recently aired duing the past year. I only have a handful of tapes that I actually have purchased over the years....maybe 10. I've been buying only DVDs as of late, but if I see a VHS that interests me that isn't out on DVD I may buy it. I've spotted one on the Best Buy site I may get.

I just got a free DVD of "Patton", from a free DVD offer on a game I got a few months back. I love freebies. ;D
