Loyalty Is My Honour: Personal Accounts from the Waffen SS by Gordon Williamson
(C)1995 Bramley Books, ISBN 1-84100-035-3
The author wrote a small preface about different stages of the war. Each preface is followed by personal testimony from actual Waffen-SS veterans. You get to follow them from recruitment all the way to retirement. Of particular interest are the contributions to the book made by foreign volunteers from countries like Holland and Belgium. Getting these fellows to talk (much less finding them alive) couldn't have been easy!
This book was published in Italy for the British book market. Finding a copy shouldn't be too hard, though I doubt it had a large print run. I paid $6.98 for it two years ago when Books-A-Million held their semi-annual overstock sale.
The Chinese War Machine: A Technical Analysis of the Strategy and Weapons of the People's Republic of China by Dr. James E. Dornan, Jr. and Nigel D. Lee
(C)1979 Salamander Books Ltd.
ISBN 0-517-26869-8
This is a large book filled with plenty of photographs and technical diagrams detailing the Chinese military at the peak of it's development in the late 1970's. I think it is a particularly interesting book precisely because it is so outdated. I've not seen a similar book before or since. You can read about the development of the PLA, the People's Militia and all other branches of the massive Chinese military which at that time numbered in excess of three million active duty troops.
I think I purchased this book at a yard sale, but I might've bought it when the local library sold their stock of "outdated" books. The library is exactly where I'd think it appropriate to look for outdated books... I guess they don't have the same way of thinking. This is another book that was meant for the British book market. Most currency amounts are figured in pounds rather than dollars. Needless to say, it is out of print.
