I went ahead and ordered a copy of Starship Troopers 2, along with the soundtrack CD of SST2 both from Amazon yesterday. I had a burned copy of SST2 but it didn't work well, so I decided to get a real version.
Admittedly, it is not the best movie in the world, some would say it is not as good as the original, but the it is alot spookier than the original. The original SST movie was a charicacture of WW2 recruiting and propaganda films, as the director and producer admitted. SST2 is a lot darker and creepier than the original and doesn't have as many CGI generated space and bug scenes and only focuses on a isolated squad on a hostile bug planet cut off by thousands and thousands of bugs, as a new bug weapon is being created amongst the squad unbenownst to them until it is almost too late.
The "perimeter burn" scene in the movie is rather cool. The abandon outpost the squad hides in is equipped with what resemble depth charges on the roof. These launch drums of a napalm type content into the air so they land just outside the outpost perimeter area in the event of a huge bug attack.
The movie story itself takes place a few years after that of the story in the original movie. The mobile infantry is being pushed deeper into bug territory and running into huge bug resistance. All of the members of the squad in SST2 are a good deal older than the young teens in the original movie.

the same guy who did the special effects in the original made this film, i think they used one aerial bombing scene from the original. and the guns were a bit cheesy, but the story is not to bad. i will always like the first film more. but this one is not bad for a dvd release, i dont think it would have done well in the theater.
