Having finally bitten the bullet and signed up for DSL service, I have installed my new DSL service and have it running. The service is through Verizon in my area and the package came with a VersaLink w-327 router/modem from Westell. The unit is a low profile sleek black plastic unit with a curved front and spots for upto 4 ethernet connection. The unit also does wireless 802.11g networking and comes with a small adjustable antenna. The unit can be stood upright in a stand or horizonally on its own four rubber feet. The install was quick and easy, the configuring in my case was handled by the install software that I got with the package. I decided to keep my AOL account and orderd the broadband service through them so they sent a install CD that did the correct setups for my particular install. Hooking up two computers went without a hitch, having just to run the install CD in both, and selecting a different install option from the menu for the second computer. The whole thing took about 10 minutes for each computer. My current connection speeds are 865Kbts down and 160Kbits up. The package also came with four in-line DSL line filters and one for the wallphone. Configuration is done through the web browser and is pretty simple once you know what to do. I had to setup up a static IP for a program I'm running and it took a little time and help but I got it working.
